MBI 08-07 - Detailed Taxi Instructions
Effective Immediately
Controllers must tell pilots the specific route an aircraft should follow when taxiing across the airfield, instead of simply giving them an intended destination point. This requires controllers to name the specific taxiways and runways the aircraft should use along its route. This will help to eliminate pilot confusion about which route to follow on the airport surface. The more detailed instructions are designed to reduce runway incursions caused by controller and pilot miscommunication.
This MBI only affects controllers signed on to Ground (_GND) and Tower (_TWR) positions at ALL airports within ZDC. Radar Controllers (_DEP, _APP, _CTR) are exempt from this MBI because providing taxi instructions will increase an already high workload while covering for other unopened positions.
